When Your Old School Friend And Everyone’s a Cunt Collide

There’s some messages you don’t expect to get on a regular day, and it usually starts with an old school friend.

In this case, she’d been gifted a copy of Everyone’s a Cunt by her daughter. Which already tells you everything you need to know about modern family communication.

Somewhere along the line, a daughter looked at Everyone’s a Cunt, thought of her mum’s social circle, and decided, “Yep, this feels right.”

Well played.

What makes it funnier is the way these things travel. You don’t really imagine your book moving through the world like that. You picture it sitting neatly somewhere on a shelf or coffee table.  Not being wrapped as a gift, handed over with a grin, and quietly causing people to question modern day reading choices. 

And then there’s the follow up reality:

It’s actually being read. Properly read.

Not just glanced at and moved next to a candle for aesthetic purposes, but read in kitchens, lounge rooms, and around the family dinner table. 

Even better, it’s making people laugh. Not the “wow this is literary excellence” kind of response. More the “I wasn’t expecting that” kind of laugh.

There’s also something surreal about hearing from someone who knew you back when life was mostly about bluffing your way through homework you forgot to do, pretending you understood the maths on the board, and surviving bad haircuts.

And now they’ve got your book. On their table.

That’s a strange full circle moment.

Anyway, credit where it’s due: to the old school friend, to the daughter doing bold gifting work, and to everyone out there letting Everyone’s a Cunt live rent free in their homes.

It turns out the goal was never to be polished or polite on a shelf. It was just to find a place on your coffee table, get opened, and make someone laugh when they weren’t expecting to.

Mission accomplished.
